2005 National FFA Alumni Convention Highlights

Georgia was recognized as having the top FFA Alumni State Affiliate in the nation and was awarded a Gold Emblem award.



Past Georgia FFA Alumni President, Norman Gay from Perry, was installed as the 2005-06 National FFA Alumni President. This is only the third National FFA Alumni president from Georgia. Mr. Josiah Phelps served as National President in 1989-90 and Dr. Ray Herren as the 1995-96 National President.

Jim East, current Georgia FFA Alumni President, was elected to an at-large position on the National FFA Alumni Council. Jim is from Miller County.

Georgia was recognized with a plaque for having the second largest increase in number of Alumni members in the nation last year. Georgia moved from 5th in the nation in total FFA Alumni membership to 4th.

Two Georgia FFA Alumni
members were recognized and presented the Blue Blazer Award for their work in increasing Georgia FFA Alumni membership over the years. Receiving FFA Alumni blue blazers were Mr. Luther Wilkes and Mr. Bill Lott. Both currently serve on the Georgia FFA Alumni Executive Council.

The Georgia FFA State Basket was voted as the top state basket in the nation and sold for over $1,000 in the live auction.


Outstanding Affiliate Award Recipients

Miller County FFA Alumni Chapter was recognized as one of only nine Gold Emblem affiliates in the nation in the Outstanding Affiliate Awards program. Habersham County FFA Alumni was recognized as a Bronze Emblem affiliate.

Pioneer Affiliate Award
Tri-County FFA Alumni (Buena Vista) and Toombs County FFA Alumni (Lyons) both were recognized as the top new affiliates in the nation. They both received a Silver Emblem award.

Local Program Support Grant Recipients
Georgia received more Local Program Support Grants than any other state in the nation. Six of the twenty $1,000 Chapter Support Grants were award to Georgia FFA Chapters. An FFA Chapter must have a local FFA Alumni affiliate to receive this grant. The six FFA Chapters from Georgia receiving the grants were:
           Habersham County FFA
           Green County High School FFA
           Jackson County High School FFA
           Fort Valley State University Collegiate FFA
           Banks County Middle School FFA
           Taliaferro County FFA

Scrapbook Award
Fort Valley State Collegiate FFA Alumni Affiliate was recognized with a Bronze Emblem award in the Scrapbook Award contest.

Legion of Merit Recipients from Georgia
Twenty-six Georgia FFA Alumni members were recognized and presented the Legion of Merit award for their efforts in membership growth. This was more than any other state in the nation. Below is the list of those receiving the Legion of Merit award:
